Title

Evolution of Bacteroides fragilis NCTC 9343- a bioinformatics based investigation

Authors

Abstract

Abstract Bacteroides fragilis NCTC 9343, a resident microbe of human gut, causes gastrointestinal disorders. Bacteroides fragilis NCTC 9343 is an opportunist pathogen causing gastrointestinal disorders and intestinal abrasions. Bacteroides fragilis NCTC 9343 has been a notorious pathogen associated with gastritis, duodenal ulcers and gastric cancer and has generated a lot of concern. Exact mechanisms underlying dysbiosis and gastrointestinal disorders still remain somewhat obscure. The genus Bacteroides dominantly resides in the stomach and crucially influences the entire microbial composition of the gastric flora. It has been reported that when Bacteroides fragilis NCTC 9343 resides as a commensal there is rich diversity of various microbial genera like Streptococcus, Prevotella, Veillonella and Rothia. Present research targets exploring the perturbations in genomic dynamics of Bacteroides fragilis NCTC 9343. Multivariate statistical analysis revealed a combined impact of mutational bias and translational selection was instrumental on the genome of the microbe. Composition constraint was more effective on the codon usage profile. Length of coding sequences also played considerable role in shaping codon usage patterns. Present observations might allow formulation of novel methods in gene expression study and methods to understand the pathogenesis of Bacteroides fragilis NCTC 9343.
