Agriculture is economically, nutritionally, and socially vital to India. It contributes 23 per cent of the GDP, feeds over a billion people, & employs 66 per cent of the work force1. 70% of India's population lives in villages, translating into a potential consumer base of over 700 million individuals. The rural consumer is no different from urban consumer in terms of aspirations for a better lifestyle. He is constrained by intermittent cash flows, poor infrastructure, non-availability of quality products & services and high dependence on feeder towns & cities.
