Title

Static Analysis of Driven Shaft with Composite Material

Abstract

A driven shaft, also known as a driven shaft or propeller shaft, is a mechanical component crucial for transmitting rotational power within machines. It comprises a cylindrical shaft with universal joints at each end, facilitating flexibility and accommodating changes in angle or alignment. Found in automotive vehicles, industrial machinery, marine propulsion systems, and power transmission equipment, driven shafts transfer power from engines or motors to various components, enabling functionality. Their design considers factors such as torque, speed, alignment, material properties, and environmental conditions to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and safety. In this project, the modeling of the Driven Shaft was done in the Solid Works software, and the Static Analysis was done using the Ansys software. Three different materials Structural Steel, Gray Cast Iron, and Epoxy E-Glass UD were considered for analysis of the driven shaft. To analyze for better Structural characteristics the total deformation, Equivalent elastic strain, and Equivalent stress of the driven shaft were determined and compared. It was found that Structural Steel was best best-suited material from this analysis.
