Title

Comparative Analysis of Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) Practices in India and the United Kingdom

Abstract

The study presents comparative study of India's and the United Kingdom’s Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) practices and its implementations in the leather manufacturing industry. The research evaluates how GSCM plans influence the environment, economic and social performance outcomes in both countries. The study also highlighted the factors influencing GSCM implementation in India and UK Leather industry. Secondary data received from published academic journals and databases in the form of reports are processed through quantitative methods to examine the environmental, economic and social effects of GSCM practices. Environment, economic and social performance outcomes variables were further analysed by descriptive analytics, correlation and Chi Square Test. Factor Analysis identify the key factors influencing implementation of GSCM practices in India. The finding of suggests that there is significant variation in the execution and impacts of GSCM in India and UK and it is influenced by regulatory uncertainties, technology readiness and culture. UK performs better in environment performance than India due to strict regulatory norms; still India has shown enhancement in environment performances but lacks on strict regulation and compliances. UK companies show better economic performance outcomes in comparison to India. In India, the application of GSCM is expensive and less cost saving. It may provide results in long run, but at short run it lacks in finances. On the other hand, UK use GSCM as its critical operation and has developed competitive edge over the market. The social performance was found weak in India in comparison to UK as there is a lack of law enforcement for GSCM practices. The study reveals that Policy and regulations, financial resources and technology are significant drives of GSCM implementation in India. However in UK, supplier and customer collaboration (Exogenous factor) is a dominant factor of GSCM practices. The cross-sectional research concludes that both nations have progressed similarly in the GSCM implementation; however India requires more regulation, finances and technological development than the UK, which has an integrated model of economic benefit with sustainability.
