Title

Status of Teacher Education Institution in W.B. State- A Case Study

Abstract

Kothari commission (1964-66) in its repots rightly stated that the “The destiny of India is being shaped in its classrooms”. Qualitative improvement of education depends on its quality of teacher. Quality teacher education can produce only quality teachers with rich knowing of skill, techniques and teachers with rich knowledge of skill, technique and teaching strategy with knowledge of child psychology and pedagogy. But in reality most of TEIs in India fail to produce quality teacher due to various issues and problems. The investigator in the present study tried to find out the existing status of TEIs running in West Bengal state through a case study. The researcher selected 6 TEIs proving B. ED programme in Nadia district. For the present study researcher observed that TEIs are not having sufficient building shortage of teaching stuff as per NCTE norms most of the teacher educators are not competent, faculty method of teaching, poor academy background of trainees, imbalance in demand and supply, paucity of funds, poor salary structure and so on.
