The present paper considers the problem of estimating the finite population mean using auxiliary information. A regression type improved estimator using auxiliary information is proposed for the purpose. The bias and mean squared error expressions to the first degree of approximation are derived for the proposed estimator. Its comparative study with some of the well known estimators available in the literature is also carried out. An empirical study is also carried out to judge the efficiency of the proposed estimator over others.
