Title

A NEW APPROACH IN DISTANCE RELAY OPERATION WITH ALGORITHM INVOLVING FAULT RESISTANCE IN CASE OF UNDER REACH

Abstract

High voltage transmission lines up to 132 kV employ distance relays for protection. Considering power swings and reachtendencies. Reactance, impedance and admittance relays are used for short, medium and long transmission lines. The arc resistance during fault may vary the relay operation. This arc resistance is calculated and used in algorithm based relay operation which is more reliable. A PLC circuit with solid state logic is provided for understanding the relay tripping operation.
