In metalworking, cutting fluids are predominantly used for the purpose of reducing heat and to act as a lubricant to reduce friction in metal parts. Typical health issues and environmental effect may arise due to the discharge of untreated spent metalworking fluids into inland surface water. Coagulation treatment is one of the many alternatives to treat wastewater. In this study, the effectiveness of natural coagulants (Neem leaves powder, Neem leaves extract, Aloe-Vera extract, Banana pith powder, Banana pith extract, Coconut coir dust) in treating the spent metalworking fluids were assessed. On comparison, the maximum turbidity removal percentage of pollutants by using Neem leaves powder and extract was found to be 59% and 82% respectively, at an optimum dosage of 75g/L and 132g/L respectively. The rest of the tested natural coagulants did not show significant difference in turbidity removal.
