Title

Formation of Silver Nanotubes from Silver Nanoparticles and Investigation of Variation of Optical Property with Morphology

Abstract

The melting point of the nanoparticles decreases very rapidly when the size is reduced to nanometric dimension, the phenomenon typically known as ‘Melting Point Depression (MPD)’. Silver nanoparticles are formed inside the pores with diameter 100nm of the Anodic Alumina Oxide (AAO) membrane using chemical process. The nanoparticles inside the AAO membrane then form nanotubes when they are calcined to a certain temperature which is lower than hundreds of centigrade to its bulk counterpart. The morphology of the nanotubes is investigated using FE-SEM and microstructures and chemical composition is analyzed by HRTEM. The structures produced at different calcination temperature (TC) may be predicted by investigation of its Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) peak. The nanotubes are single crystalline in nature as confirmed from Selected Area Electron Diffraction (SAED) pattern.
