Title

ANALYTICAL ASPECTS AND SIGNIFICANCE OF MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE GENERATION, MANAGEMENT PRACTICES AND PLANNING FOR RURAL AREAS

Abstract

Solid Waste Management practices has been increased after keen initiatives of Government in the form of reforms, policies, regulations and laws. Actually cleanliness in a city is an attribute to the living beings and system adopted for cleanliness. Solid waste is mainly the dry form of refuse. The average density of the solid waste generated is around 300 to 600 Kg/ Cu.meter. Municipal Solid waste is usually collected by the carts, auto rickshaws, tractors and some special buses meant for this purpose only. These types of conventional practices have been redefined and performed in modern era too. The management of the solid waste’s collection, conveyance, transport, disposal or reuse, mode of disposal or reuse comprises the role of Municipality. It is just not a practice to collect the solid waste from each and every houses and then to dump at a place outskirts of a city. This management of the municipal solid waste should be incorporated equipped and comprises of additional art, science and technological use. Municipal solid waste management is an art of planning managing he various activities involved to dispose the solid wastes in dry form or wet form. Mainly the solid wastes are in dry form. In the present study efforts have been made to propose a plan of municipal solid waste management for total areas which could be better and efficient than the conventional approaches adopted for solid waste management. Also it was found during study that no one method of disposal of solid waste could be adopted perfectly but it must be a practice to adopt the combination of different methods of solid waste management especially in rural areas.
