Title

TRADITION AND TRANSFORMATION: THERUKKOOTHU AND MODERN ACTING THEORIES

Authors

Abstract

This research article delves into the integration of modern acting theories within the context of Therukkoothu, a traditional theatre art form of Tamil Nadu. By exploring the application of acting methodologies such as Bertolt Brecht’s Epic Theatre Acting, Samuel Beckett’s Absurdist Acting, Mayerhold’s Biomechanism Acting, Meisner’s Acting, Grotowski’s Acting, and Stanislavsky’s Method Acting, this study aims to examine the impact on the aesthetics, storytelling, and cultural significance of Therukkoothu. Through a comparative analysis, the article seeks to identify the strengths and challenges associated with merging these modern acting theories with the ancient art form, ensuring a balanced preservation of its cultural heritage while ushering in contemporary relevance.
