Title

Health Literacy in India – A brief Review

Abstract

Health literacy as a discrete form of literacy is becoming increasingly important for social, economic and heath development. The objective is to improve the health and well-being of people. This study aims to attain health literacy as a main goal and first principle to achieving health and well-being. Growing literature on health literacy describes it as a concept not only dependent on individual capabilities but also on organizations’ ability to make health-related information and services equitably accessible and comprehensible. This paper reviews the concept of health literacy, importance of health literacy, the objective of the study, challenges faced with low health literacy and the ways to improve health literacy with in turn improves the public health.
