Abstract: Poile Sengupta's drama Thus Spake Soorpanakha, So Said Shakuni presents a nuanced exploration of power dynamics and gendered narratives within Indian mythology. This research paper delves into the play's central characters, Soorpanakha and Shakuni, and examines their distinct perspectives, shedding light on the complex interplay between gender, power, and agency. By analysing the portrayal of these characters, their motivations, and their impact on the narrative, this study uncovers the underlying socio-cultural commentary embedded in the play. Drawing on feminist theory, mythological interpretations, and theatrical analysis, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding gender and power dynamics in contemporary dramatic literature.
