Title

COMPULSION AND VULNERABILITY IN FOREST RESOURCE COLLECTION: A CASE STUDY OF WOMEN COLLECTORS IN RANGA FOREST FRINGE VILLAGE, PURULIA DISTRICT, WEST BENGAL.

Abstract

Ranga village is the most in reverse and immature forest village in Purulia district. Fundamental issue of the ancestral individuals of this village is neediness. They fundamentally live in forested sloping regions and level region of the village. They pursue different open doors from forest and keep up with their vocation by gathering fuel wood, feed, grass, organic products, vegetables and little lumber for elective kind of revenue. This study investigates the dynamics of forest resource collection among women in the Ranga Forest fringe village of Purulia district, focusing on the intricate interplay between compulsion and vulnerability in their daily lives. Through a qualitative research approach, including interviews and participant observation, the study explores the socio-economic factors compelling women to engage in forest resource collection and examines the vulnerabilities they face in this process. Findings reveal the multifaceted nature of women's roles, shedding light on the compulsion-driven reliance on forest resources for sustenance and income. The study also underscores the vulnerability of these women, both in terms of their economic dependence on forest ecosystems and the social and cultural challenges they encounter. The implications of these findings extend to the formulation of policies that aim to empower and sustainably manage forest-dependent communities, emphasizing the need for a gender-sensitive approach to address the complex dynamics of compulsion and vulnerability in forest resource collection.
