Cooperative means helping each other with an aim of serving each other. In developing countries these cooperatives are playing an exceptional role and Ethiopia is not an exception to it. It aims to provide necessary solution for economic inequality, gender discrimination. Study aims to identify the major benefit of consumer cooperatives for their members, assess the challenges faced for successful operations of consumer cooperatives and identify the prospects that helps consumer cooperative in the study area. Study confirms that supply of goods and services, providing job opportunity, sharing of profit, high return to the investors and low cost. Some of the goods like meat, oil, soap, sugar and milled grains inadequate and inconsistent way. These are also facing poor infrastructure, low quality goods and services, inadequate supply and corruptions were major challenges faced. Youth should be encouraged to participate with voluntarily. Government should encourage these stores by offering subsidies, tax exemption, and legal support and also measures should be taken to minimize the corruption.
