The concept of money has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years with the innovations in technology based payments solutions. This led central banks around the globe to explore the benefits and risks of issuing a digital currency to maintain a continuum with the current trend in innovations. Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) known as Digital Rupee represents a transformative milestone in the evolution of monetary systems and the global financial landscape. Digital Rupee- a digital evolution of India’s national currency, combine the advantages of traditional fait currency with the efficiency and security of digital technology offering several benefits, including greater financial inclusion, reduced transaction costs, enhanced transparency, and improved monetary policy tools. Furthermore, the adoption of Digital Rupee can potentially revolution is the way transactions are conducted in India, making them faster, more efficient and secure. It may significantly reduce the dependency on cash, promoting a cashless society and reducing the associated issues like money laundering and also may influence international trade and foreign exchange markets. So it is very crucial to consider the implications of this digital transformation for the future of money and finance. This paper mainly focuses on the potential implications, operational mechanisms and the multifaceted impact of the Digital Rupee on the Indian economy.
