Title

The Concept of Vasudaiva Kutumbakam in Buddhism

Abstract

More than 2600 years ago, Siddhartha Gautama a young prince after having left his palace, baby son and wife set out to find the truth of the world. Consequently, at the age of thirty-five, under the Bodhi tree of Magadha attained to Nirvana. He realized the pratityasamudpad, the inevitable connection of each one to other. The produced is multiplicity caused. This is why Buddhism emphasizes on cultivating harmony among all sentient beings let alone human. Vasudaiva kutumbakam has a very wide implications on Buddhism as it is appeared in चतुर ब्रह्म बिहार:मैत्री, करुणा,मुदित, उपेक्षा. The very first is harmony among all. The Mahayana concept of each being possessed of Buddha-nature, tathagata Garvbha is another basic aspect of establishing global harmony. It is the harmony among all that leads to the Global brotherhood, vasudaiva kutumbakam. Mahayana Buddhism says all the sentient beings are mothers of individuals’ innumerable previous births which solely advocates the main theme. The first truth among four noble truth is the pervasive universal “Suffering”. And so is each being destined to get rid of this and attain relative happiness. The sense of such a similar global objective of all also adds up the cultivation of mutual Compassions and the emergence of वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम. The significance of the concept “Global Brotherhood” is prevalent in relative/convenient world (Samvritti Satt) an inevitable foundation to realize the higher ultimate reality (Paramartha Satt). As peace prevails only and only when one's livelihood is proper and moderately sustainable, Samyak ajivika. The holistic approach of Buddhism is rightly represented in this current Era by His Holiness the Dalai Lama when he emphasizes about universal brotherhood many a times for maintaining world peace.
