Title

Digital Imaging for Soil pH Assessment: Innovations and Applications in Agriculture

Abstract

The quality and quantity of agricultural products hinge significantly on the soil's characteristics, particularly its pH level. Soil pH, indicative of its acidity or alkalinity, plays a pivotal role in crop growth and development. This paper explores the utilization of digital imaging as a tool for assessing soil pH, leveraging the visual spectrum of colors such as brown, red, green, and blue. Through numerical values of red, green, and blue (RGB), digital imaging captures the spectral nuances reflecting changes in soil pH. As the pH of soil fluctuates above or below the neutral value of 7.0, it manifests as either alkaline or acidic, profoundly influencing plant health. By examining soil pH determination through digital imaging, this review sheds light on its potential as a robust methodology for agricultural applications. Maintaining proper soil pH is essential for optimizing nutrient availability and ensuring healthy plant growth. Soil pH can be adjusted using various amendments such as lime to raise pH in acidic soils or sulfur to lower pH in alkaline soils. Regarding the use of digital imaging for soil pH determination, advancements in technology have enabled the development of tools that utilize digital imaging to assess soil characteristics, including pH levels. By capturing the spectral characteristics of soil samples, digital imaging can provide valuable insights into soil properties, including pH, which can aid farmers and agronomists in making informed decisions regarding soil management and crop production
