We studied the altitudinal distribution of birds from Anaimalai Tiger Reserve. Hill was divided in three altitudes lower altitude with 280 to 800 msl, mid elevation from 800 to 1200 msl and high altitude from 1200 to 1850 msl. We studied the birds by point count and line transect method. total of 96 transects were laid and covered. The distribution of birds have been analysed using the altitudinal wise. Total of 27068 number of individuals belonging to 221 species and 66 families were recorded. More number of individuals recorded from mid altitude followed by low and high altitude. Species richness appears to be at a maximum at about 800 – 1200 m. Above 1200 m overall species-richness declines. Nearly 19 species of bird overlapping in all three elevations. Thirty-one species noted to overlap in lower and mid elevation. Maximum number of species (n = 17) recorded from muscicapidae family followed by accipitridae (n = 15). In our study the altitudinal range dominated by high grassland had a less diverse avifauna.
