Title

A COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS AND CASE STUDY OF SOLAR INTEGRATED V2X COMPATIBLE TECHNOLOGY FOR EV BATTERY CHARGING

Abstract

With increasing number of electric vehicles and development around the manufacturing of better EVs, it becomes necessary to also develop the infrastructure required to essentially support the charging of the EVs. The existing number of powergenerating stations may not be sufficient to supply the power demand of the penetrating EVs in the coming future. The power demand as required by EVs must be fulfilled. With growing EVs in India and the world, there is a need of supporting the fleets such that the utilisation of EVs become viable, less expensive and supports the grid rather than increasing the burden on the grid. The V2G technology essentially helps the car owners to support the grid during peak demands. This paper presents a case study that essentially involves charging a single electric vehicle battery once using only solar energy and then using the grid at a specific time. The discharging of battery is also presented, such that the battery can discharge power back to the grid as well as the battery can support any load which is essentially termed as V2L. In this project, the major aim is to simulate a MATLAB Simulink model such that the battery charging either by the grid or solar or discharging to load or back to grid, is controlled by the user successfully. Essentially, to protect the battery life of the Lithium-ion battery the SOC of the battery is maintained from 30% to 80%. This enhances the battery life while the EV battery acts as an extra source to support the grid, during increased demands that would clearly be seen within a few years as EVs penetrate into the market.
