India has been an ancient seat for various religions and learning, and as such known for its cultural heritage. It is a biodiversity-rich country as well. The floral elements have influenced nearly every walks of Indian life. Their notice has been appropriately taken, since ancient times, in different aspects of culture and sentiments. These found places in Indian historical and religious monuments, temples, stupas, caves, architecture, sthalavrikshas, worships of deities, myths, legends, natural and celestial elements, local and Sanskrit plant names, toponyms, etc. The present extensive review of literary survey unravelled and explained various thoughts, myths, legends, faith, etc. in the appropriation of indigenous and exotic plant species in the aforesaid elements of Indian culture. The plant species are thus immortalized and become an integral part of Indian culture.
