Abstract

Measurement of Attenuation of the Optical Fiber Suresh Kumar1, Parshant Sharma2 Assistant Professor, Department of Physics 1NSCBM Govt. College Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, 177005, India 2NSCBM Govt. College Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, 177005, India ABSTRACT The attenuation in optical fiber which is the reduction in power of the light signal as it is transmitted. The longer the fiber and farther light has to travel, the more the optical signal is attenuated. Consequently, attenuation is measured and reported in decibels per kilometer (Db/km) also known as the attenuation coefficient or attenuation rate. There are several causes of optical loss that will be investigated through this experiment. Here we have discussed about the absorption loss of optical fiber at different length. We use software named “Opti system” for the calculation of attenuation and attenuation coefficient.
