THEMATIC ANALYSIS IN J.M.COETZEE’S DISGRACE: EMERGED IN THE POST- APARTHEID SOUTH AFRICA.

Abstract

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because reputation is your brand, it is one of your valuable assets. If you lose your reputation you will not succeed in your life. Disgrace (1999) is the novel was written by JM Coetzee. Which won him to the Nobel Prize and Booker prize in literature. Disgrace portrays the strangeful life the protagonist named David Lurie. “FOR A MAN of his age, fifty-two, divorced, he has, to his mind, solved the problem of sex rather well”. He is an old Professor of English Communications at a technical University in Cape Town in Post-Apartheid South Africa. His disgrace comes when he seduces one of his students and does nothing to protect himself from the consequences. Later he takes shelter with his daughter who is dependent on a black man in country side. The aim of the article is to present the themes and the short analysis of the novel Disgrace.
