Title

A REVIEW ON POLARIZATION RECONFIGURABLE MONOPOLE ANTENNA

Abstract

Reconfigurable antennas represent a recent invention in antenna design that changes from classical fixed form, fixed function antennas to variable structure that can be adapted to fit the requirements of a time varying system. Developments in microwave semiconductor processing technologies have enabled the use of compact, ultra high-quality RF and microwave switches in new aspects of antenna strategy. The growing demand for high data rate and new wireless communication has led to the progress of antennas which has multiband, multimode, low profile, low cost and easy to integrate with portable devices. The reconfigurable antennas include frequency reconfigurable antennas, radiation pattern reconfigurable antenna’s, Polarization reconfigurable antennas and hybrid or compound Antenna’s. The reconfigurability feature will gives the solution for size constraint and wide coverage of different applications with the single assembly. In communication system the polarization features of the radiation waves can be changed in real time by using the polarization-reconfigurable antennas. Polarization reconfigurable antennas are capable of swapping between different polarization modes. For reduction in polarization mismatch losses in portable devices the capability of switching between horizontal, vertical and circular polarizations can be used. The planar monopole antennas gain attention in wireless communication due to their wide bandwidth, low profile, light weight and cost. Monopole antennas are mostly designed to radiate linearly polarized waves. Monopole and dipole antennas with CP characteristics are better alternatives for satellite and mobile applications. In this paper, I tend to compare numerous polarization reconfigurable monopole antenna’s, their operation principles and applications. This paper represents a review work about the polarization reconfigurable antenna.
